MAJOR Boosts Screen Media Efficiency with New FLEX-MAT Polyurethane Dams and Accessories

MAJOR PolyurethaneDams 2 scaled

MAJOR, a leading global manufacturer of high-performance wire screen media, adds FLEX-MAT® Polyurethane Dams to their line of premium screen media accessories. These high-quality dams slow material flow along the screen media deck in wet screening applications to retain water in the wash zone longer, improving cleaning and reducing blinding and pegging. This new option joins MAJOR’s existing accessories portfolio, which includes Hooks, Overlaps, Side Seals, Hook Seals and Advanced Polyurethane Strips, to provide better material stratification and higher output.

“Our customers understand their screening operations better than anyone, so their insights play a critical role in how MAJOR develops specialized screening solutions,” said Kevin Laporte, MAJOR R&D manager. “They consistently challenge us to deliver products that last longer, perform better and integrate seamlessly into their existing screening systems. When our customers asked for a screen media dam with the quality and robustness FLEX-MAT is known for, we responded by developing an option with our specialized polyurethane blend. The result is a more durable, longer-lasting dam that helps customers increase throughput, reduce maintenance and extend equipment lifespans.”

Manufactured with MAJOR’s signature polyurethane, the company’s Polyurethane Dams can be added to FLEX-MAT tensioned screen media to create a controlled barrier that slows material flow as it travels down the screen deck in wash plants and wet screening applications. The 1.5-inch-high polyurethane barrier extends up to 82 inches long, stretching from hook to hook. The ends feature a 45-degree angle to make room for the tensioned bar to grab the hook during installation in the screen box. The goal is to retain water in the wash zone longer to improve cleaning. The delay results in more thorough material washing and better breakdown and removal of clay, silt and fines.

Traditionally made of polyurethane, rubber or a hybrid material with steel reinforcements, dams used for dewatering, washing and controlling material flow often wear out prematurely due to abrasion in a highly corrosive environment. MAJOR’s high-quality, specialized polyurethane increases overall durability and extends the lifespan of the dam.

MAJOR’s accessory portfolio — including Polyurethane Dams — supports screen media customers by providing a complete, well-rounded catalog of options to increase efficiency and throughput. Not only does this cover a comprehensive range of Hooks, Overlaps and Side Seals, but it also includes Crown Deck Adapters and Impact Zone Protectors. These accessories are designed to work seamlessly with FLEX-MAT screen media to optimize performance, increase wear life and expand overall screening efficiency.

“At MAJOR, our goal is to help improve the efficiency and performance of our customers’ screening operations,” said Bernard Betts, president of MAJOR. “As a full-service provider, expanding our accessories line is a natural extension of this commitment. It allows us to deliver measurable gains in durability, throughput and reliability by fine-tuning existing systems and contributing to long-term operational success.”
