Anthracite Coal Screening
FLEX-MAT Type D
Situation
An anthracite coal screening operation in Sweden faced heavy blinding on the bottom deck during autumn and winter due to moist material. The plant used woven square mesh with stainless steel wire, which lasted only 1 to 3 months.
PROBLEM
Heavy blinding and clogging, particularly on the bottom deck, required frequent cleaning shutdowns, severely affecting operational efficiency. Additionally, the short wear life of woven square mesh screens led to high maintenance and replacement costs.
SOLUTION
The plant switched to Major’s FLEX-MAT D Series on all three decks. This change eliminated blinding and clogging issues, significantly improving wear life.
BENEFITS
- Extended Wear Life: Top deck wear life exceeded 1 year, and the bottom deck averaged 6 months, compared to 1-3 months with woven mesh.
- Blinding Elimination: The new system removed blinding on all decks, ensuring continuous operation without frequent cleanings.
- Cost Savings: Reduced downtime and maintenance costs due to extended screen wear life and no blinding issues.
